Japan's earliest cherry blossom festival starts on 21 January and runs to 5 February. The Motobu Yaedake Sakura Matsuri takes place on the Motobu peninsula in Northern Okinawa in Yaedake park.
Every year over 7000 Taiwan cherry blossoms start to bloom in mid-January. Mount Yae is 453 meters high and you can either walk or drive up to get a full view of the blossoms. Click HERE for a map
Also in Northern Okinawa the 50th annual Nago Sakura Matsuri takes place from 28 January to 29 January. You can enjoy over 20,000 Taiwan cherry trees situated in Nago Chuo Park. Click HERE for a map
If you don't fancy driving all the way to Nago, then Naha has later blooming sakura which normally come into bloom from the beginning of February. The Naha Sakura Matsuri will take place from 8 February to 12 February at Yogi Park in Naha City. There are around 400 sakura trees close to the river. Click HERE for a map
