Sunset Beach is located in Chatan, in the center of Okinawa. It’s one of our favorite beaches mainly due to the easy access location being just behind American Village. You can spend a day on the beach then hit up the nearby shops, cafes and restaurants to wind down at the end of the day.
The beach has gentle golden sand and peaceful shallow water which creates an excellent spot for families and people who want to swim casually. The beach provides a secure environment for different water activities because of its gentle slope and artificial breakwaters even though swimming is best during high tide. They’ve recently remodelled the area with wide walkways around the beach making it easy to enjoy a walk around the beach and area.
The beach delivers its promise of sunset views by displaying the East China Sea sunset during evening hours. It gets very popular with tourists and locals but it’s got plenty of space and is perfect for a cold chuhai while the sun goes down.
Whilst not the quietest of beaches it’s a solid choice especially if you want to do other things during the day or one of your group loves the sand and another wants to shop!
