One part of pet ownership is making sure our furry, scaly and feathery friends stay in good health. Choosing a good vet is important, and this can be a daunting task. Whilst I can’t tell you who you should pick, I can give you an option from personal experience: Iris D and C in Kadena Town.

Located just off the main road running through Kadena Town, Iris D and C is a small but well-equipped clinic. There is some parking, but it is limited. They don’t run an appointment system, it’s first come, first serve, unless your pet is having surgery. Opening hours for consultation are Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9.00am to 12.30pm, and again 4.00pm to 7.30pm. If your pet is booked for surgery, they must be dropped off at opening time (9.00am). They are closed Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Aside from routine surgeries such as spay and neuter, they also offer vaccinations, microchipping (not international chips, only Japanese), blood testing, flea and worming treatments, and they see pets that are sick. Most staff can speak a decent level of English, and they offer translation services (300 yen per visit). All staff are kind and friendly, showing patients a high level of care and attention. Price is competitive. I’ve found them to be much cheaper than places such as Animal Hospital 22. For example, a spay or neuter for a cat is a little over 6,000 yen. This is staggeringly cheap, and there is no compromise on care.

Iris D and C accepts payment with yen, dollar, and credit card. They have a website (mostly Japanese, some English) and can be contacted by phone for questions and surgical appointments.

Please note they’re closed for lunch. Please check website for exact times.
