Our guide to Okinawa’s best beaches!
Araha beach is one of the most popular beaches in Okinawa as it’s centrally located and close to all the bases as well as American village. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months and apart from a clean beach and roped off swimming area they also have basketball courts, beach volleyball, boat and jet ski rides as well as snacks, showers and much more!
Araha beach is located just off Highway 58 opposite Camp Foster. Scan the barcode below for a Map or visit the URL below on your PC: https://goo.gl/maps/d4MitL6JzrT2
Tropical Beach is another popular beach with both the local and military community. It’s located next to the Ginowan Convention Center and Laguna Garden Hotel. There’s a large sandy beach and a big park if you get bored of all the sand as well as plenty of covered seating if the sun becomes too much.

Toguhci beach is probably one of our favourite beaches in Okinawa. It’s a lot more natural than the man made beaches like Araha and has a beautiful park with lots of caves to explore as well as some beautiful views down to the rocks. There’s also a large slide and play area for children.

Zanpa is a great choice if you live in the Yomitan area. It’s a beautiful crescent shaped beach with plenty to do close by. There’s the usual boat rides and BBQ areas as well as a park close by overlooking the beach and the cliffs of Cape Zanpa with it’s lighthouse.

Nishihara Marine Park
Nishihara Marine Park is our top choice if you’re looking for a beach on the Pacific side of the island. It’s a relatively new development and in addition to the usual attractions what sets this beach and park apart is the large children’s play area and that they have BBQ food on site. You can enjoy a BBQ lunch from 11:00 – 13:00 (times may vary) along with a banana boat ride for just 3300 yen per person. Swimming is from 10:00 – 19:00 during the summer peak.
You’ll find Nishihara located on the Pacific side of the island. Scan the barcode below for a Map or visit the URL below on your PC: https://goo.gl/maps/qH8PgabjUJD2
There are many other beaches we haven’t had the space to mention here. If you’re adventurous then head up the coast past Yomitan looking for one of the many secluded natural beaches. If you want to camp on a beach then check out the private Mission Beach. There’s a charge but it’s worth it! https://goo.gl/maps/YYkLaEuddhK2
