One of the things we really love about Okinawa is its diversity. Who knew such a small island had so much to offer? For our readers that love their Harley’s, you’re in for a treat! Al’s Place in Chibana is a must visit for any biker fan.  Al’s Place was a mainstay of Gate 2 Street for many years, and owner Al was a well known character! His shop stood at this location for 11 years, from 1999 to 2010. Prior to this, he ran the First Chance bar from 1984 to 1999, the same place he met his wife, Yasuko, in 1996. He also ran Yum Yum Tree from 2005 to 2008, and Ryukyu Custom Cycle Harley-Davidson Shop from 2000 to 2005. In total, Al is a businessman with over 20 years experience. Long timers here will be pleased to know he and Yasuko are back, with their latest venture opening up a short drive from Kadena Gate 3.  If you drive too quickly, or aren’t looking out, you could pass by without realising. If you end up at Family Mart, you went too far! Al’s Place is easy to spot when you know where to look; the bright orange of the store facia sticks out against its beige coloured neighbours. You’ll likely get a greeting as warm as the facade from Yasuko as you enter too!

The shop is small but perfectly formed, with a good layout, clean, bright, and a welcoming colour scheme. There’s a decent range of Biker themed apparel, such as shirts, stickers, patches, and boots. I also really loved the mix of local crafts and handmade wares. In particular the pottery made by a local friend, and the beautiful blankets. Another favourite is the shops own custom-made shirts, a must for any local Bike fan! The same design can also be found on hoodies, ladies shirts, and even baby grows, so the whole family can get in on the fandom!  Al’s place is open Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11.00am to 6.00pm, and weekends 12.00pm to 6.00pm. They are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Payment method is dollar or yen cash, with future plans to add a card option (no ETA for this). You can call on 098-923-3638 for enquiries, with great Japanese and English spoken.  Stop by and show some love to Al’s Place!
