There are only two things you need to know about Hayama Soba. One, there is no parking for the restaurant whatsoever and two, the Soba is so good that people don’t care and are risking their cars getting towed just to eat here! You will see what I mean below.

Hayama Soba is a small soba restaurant tucked in the outskirts of Sunabe. Note that this restaurant is in no way new in any sense of the word. With old wooden tables and chairs and an almost broken toilet door, it looks like it could give in at any moment. But before you cast your final judgement, try to keep an open mind at least until the food arrives. Ordering here might be tricky as everything is in Japanese but as the name suggests, there is only one thing worth ordering at Hayama soba anyways. Do I really need to spell it out? The Hayama Soba, of course! It comes in a reasonable sized portion bowl with ample soba soup, eggs, spring onions, and three pieces of Soki (stewed pork spare ribs). I gotta say, the soba will bring you there but the Soki will keep you coming back. The tenderness of it all is indescribable. How the meat just falls apart with your chopstick is simply a work of art. The cartilage is so soft and suculentastic (is that even a word?) that you can almost drink it. Absolutely wonderful stuff. I have probably personally eaten here more times than I can count with my fingers and toes. Price is a steal. They have other varieties of soba all under 1000 yen. You can even get a small Jushi rice (steamed rice with mixed vegetables) and still be within a lunch budget.

Hayama soba is in my opinion, the best soba restaurant on the island. It is ideal for quick business lunches and maybe weekend eats after your walk along the Sunabe seawall. I do not recommend this place for family or dates. Its pretty run down and you might scare who ever it is you are trying to make happy. Directions are a bit tricky. From Kadena gate 1, as you exit, turn left and then make your first right. Head towards the seawall and keep your eye on the restaurants on your right. Hayama soba is the 2nd one from the last before you finally reach the seawall. Remember… PARK AT YOUR OWN RISK!
